Workshop content:

12pm - 6pm

In this workshop, you'll learn how to perform takedowns, explore ground control techniques and explore some minimal restraint methods. This session will give you a set of skills that you can use to create more forceful play sessions and manipulate your partner's body easier.

What we'll go through:

  1. The appeal of takedown play, safety considerations and warm up
We'll discuss the group's goals for the workshop and what can be expected.

Takedown play is considered edge play with good reason, it's psychologically potent and carries many risks. This brief introduction will help you to understand the the risk factors when using takedowns/body manipulation, how to manage them and how both parties can keep themselves safe.

2. Standing control
We'll explore techniques for reducing the distance between you and your target. Beginning with several realistic scenarios, we'll look at the practicalities of how to get closer to a person who is moving away from you and how to exert control whilst in a standing position.

3. Takedown
Inspired by wrestling and judo, we'll examine ways of getting our partners off balance, and how to control their weight as they're falling. We'll modify techniques based on the risk factors/physical abilities of those present.

4. Ground control
Keeping someone on the floor is a technical skill. Using anatomy and leverage, we'll go through some concepts of how to contain someone who wants to get up and how we can add more pressure.

5. Bondage on a grounded party
Tying an uncooperative person is incredibly challenging. Using a pragmatic approach, we'll consider:

  • safety concerns

  • rope preparation

  • suitability of different limb cuffs

  • quick methods of creating tie stability

  • body manipulation

6. Bondage on a standing party
Exploring resistance and bondage from a different angle. We'll examine a method of creating restraint before the takedown stage and completing the tie once our target is on the ground. Implementing rope in this way allows us to play with leverage and grips in interesting ways.

7. Breathplay
Additional breath control techniques - please note these elements of the workshop are optional.

Pre-requisites and considerations

People being bound should be able to tell the difference between nerve and circulation impingement and be comfortable communicating with their partner.

This workshop is intended to adapt techniques to students with a wide variety of physical capabilities, however due to the duration of the workshop, it isn't recommended for anyone who is unable to physically participate in light exercise. i.e. if you wouldn't partake in a play fight because of existing injuries or conditions, you might want to consider your suitability for this class.

Knowledge of how to tie a single column tie would be beneficial but not essential (there are plenty of Youtube tutorials to help)

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move.

Keep yourself hydrated during the workshop and be mindful of your energy levels

There will be a snack break at approx 2.30-3pm. Cans of Coke/ Diet Coke/ Pepsi Max/ Fanta/ 7Up etc £1 and water 50p. Bottomless cup for tea/coffee/squash £1. Crisps/chocolate/bananas/apples etc 50p.

About the teachers:

ChristianRed in his own words:

"I'm a rope/takedown teacher based in Nottingham and have been teaching takedown workshops since 2012.

I've studied martial arts for most of my life, competed in judo and submission wrestling and later coached in training camps for MMA, submission wrestling and Brazilian Ju Jitsu fighters. My involvement in the kink community has lasted 16 years so far. In recent years, I've taught at Anatomie Studio, EURIX, Rope Office Hours, String Fling, UKREX and Oxford Peer Rope.

My focus as an educator is giving people tools and ideas to express themselves.

Takedown play with rope bondage is a way of bringing my various passions together."

Christian Red has been exploring kink since 2002. His priority as a rigger is to develop a shared space with the person he’s tying, giving them freedom to explore themselves and polishing a range of skills to enact different headspaces and situations.

Since becoming an educator full time, his focus has been on giving people tools and ideas to express themselves by breaking complex topics into simple ideas.

He has studied with many well-respected riggers including Barkas, Wildties, Xian, Gorgone, Gestalta, Kazami Ranki, Fred Hatt, Ronin and Wykd Dave. He remains a lifelong student.

He currently runs rope events in the middle of England and travels further afield to teach, perform, and create art.

Christian and Scarlot began tying together in 2016 and since then have been on a journey based on mutual trust, vulnerability and open expression.

Scarlot Rose

"Scarlot Rose is a UK based model, artist and rope enthusiast. She first discovered rope around 2011 and has incorporated it into her work and lifestyle ever since. “Rope art for me is about capturing truth; a form of honesty. Exposed to explore my inner most fears, desires and passions. Being seen for who I am in those fragile moments in which I give myself to another. Through suffering with someone else I both see and am seen at my most vulnerable, sharing together an emotional space, a connection of such intensity that I cannot describe in words.”
